Street Pastors

;

Street Pastors is an inter-denominational Church response to urban problems, engaging with people on the streets to care, listen and dialogue.

It was pioneered in London in January 2003 by Rev Les Isaac, Director of the Ascension Trust, and has seen some remarkable results, including drops in crime in areas where teams have been working. There are now some 9000 trained volunteers in around 250 teams around the United Kingdom.

Newton Abbot Street Pastors have been going for 3 years. Approximately seven people meet every Saturday night at the Salvation Army Hall at 9.30pm for prayer. At 10.00pm a team of 4 Street Pastors walk the streets of Newton Abbot seeking to assist anyone who requires help. The prayer team continues to pray for the Street Pastors and for the town. The Police have reported reduced crime figures on Saturday nights and that the streets are much calmer but Friday nights have now become more of a problem.

Please pray for the safety of the Street Pastors and for opportunities to share God's love to a broken world. Let us give thanks to God for the good relationships that Street Pastors have established with the Police and Council and pray for this to continue.

Please pray that God will raise up more people to be a Street or Prayer Pastor.
